Last Supper

By Mark Jackley. Published on April 6, 2023.

Perhaps it will be like

the night your ex and you

called it quits. Remember,

she was making dinner

and suddenly you realized

you had left your body,

looking down, you watched yourself

stammer, blurt, and grip

the table, later working

a loose thread on your sweater.

Come morning, naked, you

were only getting started.

Mark Jackley's poems have appeared in Fifth Wednesday, Sugar House Review, Natural Bridge, and other journals. Last year, Main Street Rag published his book of poems Many Suns Will Rise. He lives in northwestern Virginia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with his amazing wife, their crazy dog, and Leo, America's Most Admired Cat.
